Burma is a country composed of diverse peoples and cultures struggling for freedom from a brutal military junta. In 1988, Burma's State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC) established a totalitarian state with a military crackdown that killed more than 6,000 people. Although they recently changed their name to the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) they continue to practice torture, rape, imprisonment and forced labor.
To this day, the ethnic people of Burma are fighting for freedom and independence. The ethnic peoples want to create a union, a federation of states where their land, personal freedom and cultural traditions can remain intact.
This slide show is from our medicine delivery missions into Karen State where the Karen people have been struggling for freedom for over 53 years....
